"For at that Glenbrook intersection is a small business, about 30 feet wide and 150 feet long with a greenhouse, named Joe G. Nursery.

The splash of green among the asphalt and cement block buildings is run by Joe Galluzzo and his wife of 30 years, Maria.

Galluzzo came to the nursery roundabout. Leaving his home on a farm in Reggio Calabria in Italy about 1957, Galluzzo went to Paris, where he became a plumber.

Ten years later, Galluzzo, a trim man who stands a little over 5 feet tall with a winning white-toothed smile, came to Stamford and resumed his career playing with wrenches and pipes by joining Local 311.

But Galluzzo missed the plants and the verdant earth he grew up with. He said that because he did not gamble all of his lettuce away in Atlantic City like some of his friends, he was able to open the nursery in 1984." --Stamford Advocate
